The Bleepin' Tempo Picker (aka "Why Your Metronome Won't Shut Up")

The tempo picker pops up when the metronome's feelin' needy, when you're long-pressin' the metronome live bar button like your life depends on it, or when you're messin' with tempos in the Metadata Editor inside the Song Editor. It lets you dial in beats per minute (BPM) so you can actually stay in time. Shockingly.

Setting The Time Signature (AKA "The Math Part")

Wanna change the time signature? Tap that number combo in the upper left corner to bust open the time signature picker. OnSong defaults to 4/4 'cause apparently we all live in a world of four-on-the-floor. Revolutionary, amirite?

Selecting Subdivisions (Or "Subdivisions Are Freakin' Everywhere")

The metronome's set to quarter note subdivisions by default, bless its little heart. Tap the icon in the upper right corner & it'll cycle through whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes, eighth note shuffle & sixteenth notes like it's speed-datin'. Got a compound time signature like 6/8, 9/8 or 12/8? Congrats, that quarter note's now a dotted quarter note. Plot twist!

Adjusting Metronome Settings (The "Fix It" Menu)

Wanna tweak how your metronome sounds & looks? Tap that wrench icon in the upper right corner to dive into the metronome settings. Then hit Done to save your genius moves, or tap Cancel to chicken out. No judgment.

Setting the Tempo (The Slidey Bit)

To set the tempo, slide left & right like you're mixin' a track at a club. Tap the left/bottom or right/top edges to tweak the tempo by whatever beat increment you picked in Quantize BPM. Default's one whole beat, 'cause we're not monsters.

OR — & this is wild — tap smack in the middle of the tempo picker & literally tap out the tempo. Yep, the time signature gets factored in so compound time signatures don't make your brain explode. The tempo that gets captured rounds to match your Quantize BPM setting.

Starting & Stopping (The "Go" & "Whoa" Buttons)

Here's the thing: the metronome starts immediately when you tap the live bar button 'cause we're impatient. Long-press it & BAM—it plays. This isn't a bug, it's a feature (aka the operating system makes us wait to figure out what you're doin'). The tempo picker's got a play/stop button so you can start, stop, or check your BPM without losin' your mind.

Changing Tempo Limits (The "No, That's Too Slow" Zone)

The tempo can swing between 40 & 200 BPM. Go below 40? It gets set to "None" & the tempo just vanishes like it never existed. Wanna change those limits? Go to Settings » Live Settings » Metronome » Audio Settings » BPM Settings. We know, it's a lot of tappity-taps.

Acquiring Tempo from MIDI (The "Sync Up with Your Gear" Magic)

Got the MIDI add-on turned on? Cool story. You can snag the tempo by listenin' to a MIDI clock. It's like a digital heartbeat that keeps all your hardware & software buddies in sync when the tempo decides to have a mood swing.

Flip this switch on to lock in the tempo. When you're done, flip it off to keep what you just grabbed. Ez pz.
