Nerdy MIDI Stuff (Yeah, We Know)

Non-Registered Parameter Numbers (or "NRPN" for peeps who love their acronyms) let you send a boatload of nerdy values to MIDI devices that need stuff way beyond what boring old standard MIDI commands can handle. Basically, you pick a coarse & fine parameter number (thanks, manufacturer!) then pick a coarse & fine value. Science.

Whatcha Doin'?

Wanna set up an NRPN event in the MIDI editor? Cool story bro—just pick NRPN in the type section & boom, you're like a MIDI wizard now. Srsly.

The Channel Situation

The channel is where your NRPN event gets sent or received on the MIDI highway. By default, OnSong's all "I'll take it on ALL channels, thx"—but if you wanna get picky, use the plus & minus buttons to lock it down to one specific channel like some kind of control freak.

Tap the channel name & you can Make It Your Own by givin' it a custom name that actually matches your gear instead of that garbage the manufacturer assigned. You're welcome.

The Parameter Thingy

This is literally the parameter you wanna change. Grab those coarse & fine parameter settings & dial in whatever your MIDI instrument is beggin' for. Your manufacturer's manual? Yeah, go crack that open & find out which NRPNs they actually care about. We can't read minds. (Yet.)

The Value Situation

This is what you're sendin' to your MIDI instrument for that parameter you picked. Use the coarse & fine settings & choose the value like you're playin' a bleepin' slot machine. Hopefully it works. Fingers crossed. 🤞
