Stare at Lyrics Like It's Your Job

The Song Viewer is literally where your songs hang out & chill. You can yeet songs into the view using the Tunes Hamburger. When you pick a book, grab a song, flex your search skills, creep through song categories, or select a set, boom—those results land in the song viewer.

Each song goes full-screen in the viewer. ZOMG! You can swipe up or down, or tap the top or bottom to scroll through your song vertically. Then swipe left or right (or tap the sides, we get it, you're lazy) to jump between songs in the viewer.

Peekin' at Stuff

OnSong can show a ridiculous smorgasbord of file formats including text-based chord charts & PDF files & whatever else you throw at it. They show up in the song viewer & scroll sideways like it's 1999. Same deal with browsing songs—just scroll horizontally through your collection or set & pretend you're at a concert.

Yeah yeah, swiping is supposed to be how you move around on phones & tablets, but good luck doing that while you're actually, y'know, playing an instrument. (Spoiler: you can't.) So the song viewer's got special screen zones you can tap called Navigation Zones & Hot Corners because we're that thoughtful.

Pro tip: If sections are clickable because of lyrics projection, scene assignments, MIDI shenanigans, or you're rockin' OnSong Connect/OnCue, those section picks will bulldoze over any other navigation zones or hot corners. Sorry, not sorry.

Chords (aka "How to Not Sound Like a Total Noob")

Usin' a text-based chord chart? Tap on any chord & open the Chord Inspector. It'll show you like a bazillion ways to play that chord on different instruments. Congrats, you're welcome.

You can customize what happens when you tap a chord in Settings » Live Settings » Chord Playback, but tapping & holding a chord will always open the Chord Inspector. Yeah, we tied your hands there. Deal with it.

Sections (aka "The Good Stuff")

Got Lyrics Projection turned on? Tap sections of lyrics to decide what shows up on your external screen. The currently selected section gets a colored bar on the left side—real fancy, right? Wanna change that bar's color? Settings » Display Settings » Song Viewer » Vertical Position Indicator. You're welcome.

Tap & hold sections in the song viewer to unlock the Section Mapping Menu. This bad boy lets you link Scenes & MIDI Events to a section. Old versions just glued stuff to wherever the section was in the song. Now with OnSong 1.999 & beyond, new assignments stick to the named label & stanza. Translation: MIDI & scenes assigned to Chorus 1 stay with Chorus 1 even if it goes walkabout in your song. Wild, right?

When the section gets tapped, the scene activates & the MIDI stuff fires off. Magic. ✨

Layout (aka "Make It Pretty")

Bored with how your chord charts look? Customize 'em with the Style Preferences Menu to change fonts & styling. You can also rearrange the whole page layout using the Layout Screen hiding in the Navigation Editor over in the Utilities Menu. We put it somewhere annoying on purpose. You're welcome.
